Do you go down the rabbit hole?
Today my husband said something quite profound. It was one of those memorable moments which clearly defined the meaning of winning versus losing.
The topic of our conversation was football. In particular, his alma mater having recently won in football. As pleased as the coach may have been, my husband said he’s not the type of person to rest on past laurels. Instead, the coach said there was room for improvement.
Then my husband went on to explain his particular coaching style. This is the part in our conversation which made me feel grateful to live on this Earth. “He doesn’t preach winning or losing,” said my husband, “he, merely, teaches you to become the best version of yourself and the rest will follow.”
“Sign me up!” I said enthusiastically. “I want to be a part of this winning philosophy.” I am convinced our souls thirst for this type of truth, meaning, and pure goodness in life. To be honest, I haven’t been living the best version of myself. I have been mired bobby socks deep in resentment. It wasn’t over any major infraction, just a piddly offense. So, I took to heart what this coach said and made amends right away.
Everyday we are given the opportunity to express the best version of ourselves, regardless of outcome. Can you imagine the effect this would have on your life if you applied this golden principle in each moment, and to each person? The best version of yourself would neutralize the most contentious situations. It would also offer much needed inspiration to this world and to one another.
It’s nice to be reminded of this profoundly beautiful way to live. What a relief it is to know there is no winning or losing. It is all a matter of how you show up, to yourself and to others.
