Do you go down the rabbit hole?
My home has a lovely front entrance with an abundance of natural light. As you enter through the front door, you will see a cream colored bench lined with pillows and an adjacent coat closet. One of my favorite features of this enclosed space is the foyer rug, ever ready to welcome our guests.
Rugs in my opinion are much like a warm hug. Their welcoming presence offers an invitation with the hope that we will stay awhile. These mainstays within a home create the space for memories to take place and quickly become members of the family.
During these past seven years, we have had two side by side rugs in the foyer area and they are beginning to show some wear. My husband and I recently placed our home on the market for sale. We both agreed that it was time to downsize and looked forward to less upkeep and a simpler lifestyle. Cabin style living would suit us just fine.
While preparing our home for a recent showing, I removed the two rugs from their usual spot. The hardwood floor beneath had become slippery like an ice skating rink. My intention was to replace these two rugs with one singular rug, however, the newly purchased rug ended up being placed in our downstairs guest bedroom. This rearrangement did not fare so well. Aside from my husband and I slipping and sliding every time we went to retrieve our coats, it also had an unexpected consequence. It got to the point where I started to avoid the front foyer entrance altogether.
The Qi in the entrance way was no longer inviting because of the possibility that we might take a spill. The best way to understand the word Qi is to picture it as a life force energy. And much like a river, Qi can either flow or become stagnant based upon environmental factors. We all know what it feels like to walk into a room where the energy feels good versus wanting to exit right away.
A person’s home is the perfect setting to consciously create positive transformational Qi. But this did not happen in my home once I removed the two rugs. Day after day I continued with my avoidance of this once happy space until it crossed my mind that:
The front door was no longer a welcoming portion of our home, and I had no doubt that on some metaphysical level, this was having an impact on any potential buyers. In order to remedy the situation, I moved the recently purchased rug from the downstairs to the upstairs entrance. And thank goodness I did. The front foyer is now once again a happy space in our home, and the presence of negative Qi is no longer blocking the front door. It’s now flowing in the best way possible. Plus, there is a beautiful new outside doormat that reads, Welcome.
Looking back now, during this entire rug incident, my husband and I received little interest in our home. But as soon as I put the new rug at the entrance of our home, we immediately had an interested party contact us.
This just goes to show that our emotions are greatly impacted by our environment. So much so that on a subconscious level this may very well have a greater impact on our lives than we may realize. Therefore, what type of Qi flows throughout your home? My hope is that it flows happily from room to room.
