Memories of a Forgotten Lifetime
Nothing in life that is worthwhile gets done without getting down to the nitty-gritty. Today I was involved in the not so fun stuff in order to get a project done. Never mind the fact that I kept eating every 30 minutes or so. Canned chicken, baked beans, fruit juice sweetened corn flakes—an assorted mishmash of foods—but who’s looking. If that’s what it takes to get through the nitty-gritty, then so be it.
Doing the nitty gritty is far from fun, but once you have completed the task at hand, there’s no greater feeling. Except for perhaps indulging in your most favorite dessert or binge watching a favorite television show. When the time comes for you to face your nitty-gritty, bolster yourself as best you can. Dig into those potato chips or carrots and celery stalks and begin the nitty-gritty. Then take a break along the way and do something that brings you pleasure. I chose to glance through my favorite catalogues. Shore yourself up some more, and then dig in again to tackle the nitty-gritty.
Now don’t forget to have your favorite drink on hand. Mine happens to be a nice hot cup of ginger tea. And remember, “for every drain, there must be a gain.”
Thank goodness I’m almost done with today’s project. Now where’s that bag of coconut granola? One way or another, we all have to face the nitty-gritty in life. This is how I get it done!
